El Negro & Giovanni Hidalgo have a new DVD out: "Travelling through time".
Check samples at http://www.moderndrummer.com
Horacio's lest foot clave work is so consistent and in the pocket. He's really the best at it.
Also check this tune with El Negro on the Michel Camilo Live at the Blue Note:
See you later
This is a great disc that won this year's Grammy award for best latin jazz album.
So Negro now has 2 Grammys: Santana+Camilo

The tihng about LFC is that it doesn't sund like another guy is playing it, it sounds tacked on becaose it never vaires because it can't.
If Negro had a pedal that allowed him to play between two cowbells or agogo bells, it would sound a bit fresher, but the LFC stuff is sounding tired.

Thanks Tombo,
Both Horacio and Giovanni are two of my all-time favourites in this genre. Great performances from both ! By the way, my wife found Calle 54 and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Both Giovanni and Negro are on the DVD. Horacio looks strange with a big latin band . The highlight for me is the Michel Camilo Trio tune with Anthony Jackson.

I really like the "Triangulo" album I have of Camilo's. I think that the LFC stuff is still great, but then again, most latin rhythmic stuff has always been impressive sounding and plainly enamoring to me.

i got that dvd a couple of months ago....its crazy stuff...those 2 guys were really pushing the limits of latin percussion and drums...
if you wanna check some awesome playing by vinnie and el negro on a latin pop album check out Alejandro Sanz' latest called No Es Lo Mismo...i have to admit that all the better tracks were given to el negro so he was able to shine more on it...pretty damn good stuff...he plays on a track there that is in 12/8...the song name is 12 por 8

Live at the Blue Note is excellent. Have any of you heard the guy who won the last MD fest. He can play the cascara and clave on one foot and do other stuff.
